Organized by:

The course aims to provide an overview of the recent trends in European heritage legislations, highlighting similarities and diversities. It is meant to offer practicing professionals examples of model practices, also by identifying problems and challenges in the field of legal issues in cultural heritage protection.

The topics include different national and international conventions, urban and territorial planning, cultural tourism, illicit trade of cultural goods, sustainable development, preventive conservation, managerial issues, climate change, etc.

Site-visits and presentations of case-studies will offer practical insights into presented topics, so participants are invited to contribute to the discussion out of their own experience.

The course will have room for 20 participants from governmental and non-governmental organisations, academics and private professionals. Masters and PhD students of diverse specialisations who wish to gain more insight into the juridical aspects of cultural heritage management are welcome to apply.

How to reach Piran?

By plane, it can be reached from the airport of Ljubljana or from the airport from Trieste, from there it takes about 2-3hours by public transport to reach Piran.
By train, it can be reached via Trieste and from there by bus (1h30mins), or via Koper (and from there 45mins by bus).
There are bus connections from Rijeka, Zagreb, Trieste, Ljubljana.
By car, it can be reached by motorway via Ljubljana (A1) and via Trieste (H5) towards Koper and from there by regional road.
